Many banks who are considering the adoption of the Equator Principles will be waiting the outcome of the IFC Review with some anticipation. As the Equator Principles are based on these IFC policies guidelines banks they are essentially signing up to an unknown quantity at present. Once the policy review is finalised there is likely to be an influx in banks adopting the Equator Principles.
IFC’s first released the draft policies in August 2004. Since that time, public input has helped IFC make the proposed policies much better, and many stakeholders have acknowledged the improvements to the draft policies released in September 2005.
You can find the public comments from 60-day comment period posted on the IFC website. The IFC will consider all of them carefully over the next six weeks while making final revisions to the policies. The IFC Board of Directors is scheduled to consider the final draft Sustainability Policy and Performance Standards and the draft Disclosure Policy in late January 2006.
